A day after India’s historic 2024 T20 World Cup win over South Africa at the Kensington Oval, Rohit Sharma posed for a selfie alongside the trophy in his hotel room and shared the picture of the same on his Instagram account. In the caption, the cricketer wrote: “Morning everybody.”
Batting first, Team India amassed a competitive 176-7 courtesy of a sublime 59-ball 76 from Virat Kohli and sparkling cameos from Axar Patel and Shivam Dube. Later in the South African innings, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh got the new-ball swinging to grab early wickets before Heinrich Klaasen consolidated the stuttering Proteas chase alongside David Miller.
However, Hardik Pandya came up clutch for India at the death by dismissing both Klaasen and Miller to secure a seven-run win and a drought-ending title for the ‘Men in Blue’.
The outcome marked India’s first T20 World Cup since 2007, first World Cup win across any format since 2011, and first ICC title since 2013. It also made Rohit only the third Indian skipper in history to win a World Cup after Kapil Dev (1983) and MS Dhoni (2007 and 2011).
