Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been replaced by Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper ahead of IPL 2024. The news has shocked the cricketing world, especially Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma fans who seem to find it hard to believe that their five-time IPL winner skipper will no longer lead their Paltan in the IPL.

However, according to the report from Indian Express, Rohit Sharma was well aware of the move and was informed by MI management just before the start of the World Cup 2023. According to the report that has come forward, Hardik Pandya made it quite clear that he will move to MI from GT only if he is handed MI captaincy.

The MI owners eventually accepted Pandya's condition and informed it about the same to Rohit Sharma before the World Cup. It is believed that Rohit Sharma agreed to play under Hardik Pandya and left it to the franchise to decide his future.

Under Rohit Sharma, MI have won record five IPL titles, a feat only matched by CSK. He became captain in 2013 and has been the poster boy of Mumbai Indians for over a decade now.

Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians under Rohit's captaincy before he switched to GT for two seasons, leading them to a title win in 2022 IPL.
