Former England skipper Eoin Morgan named his favourite picks for the leading individual prizes available at the 2023 World Cup in India. Morgan came up with his primary candidates to win the leading run-scorer, top wicket-taker and 'Player of the Tournament' award.

Three Lions' 2019 World Cup-winning skipper also predicted Jos Buttler-led England as the likely winners of the coming tournament on Indian shores considering the depth they possess in either department. Morgan backed Buttler & company to overcome their transition blues experienced over the past four years and to pack the strongest punch when it matters.

Buttler's men are in strong form leading into the 50-over showpiece, having clinched an impressive 3-1 series victory at home against New Zealand and dominating their only completed warm-up match versus Bangladesh in Guwahati before facing the Kiwis for the tournament opener in Ahmedabad on Thursday (October 5).

Morgan names likely top run-getter, player of the tournament

Notably, Morgan not only backed Buttler to guide his team to the ultimate crown but also to emerge as the highest run-getter of the competition.

The extravagant middle-order batter, who is one of the devastating players for opposition attacks, is England's second-highest run-getter since the 2019 World Cup. He has amassed 980 runs in 27 matches at an average close to 45 while carrying a strike-rate in excess of 111.

Persisting with his England bias for a little longer, Morgan then deemed experienced wristspinner Adil Rashid to be the likely player to finish with the leading wicket-taker's tag at the World Cup.

Rashid may have not been at his best over the past few seasons but Morgan reckons he will raise his performances at the tournament in India. Notably, Rashid is England's top wicket-taker since the 2019 World Cup with 41 scalps in 27 matches.

The 'Player of the Tournament' holder for Morgan, however, is not an Englishman as he thinks Indian captain and elegant opener Rohit Sharma could be the one ultimately holding the biggest individual prize on offer at the coming World Cup.

Rohit, who has transformed into an exceptional aggressor at the top of the order since the conclusion of his bumper 2019 World Cup campaign, is averaging 48.46 with a strike-rate of 103.56 in the four-year period.
