Yashasvi Jaiswal fails to score big in Duleep Trophy [Source: AFP]
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been in excellent form in red-ball cricket recently, couldn’t make an impact in the Duleep Trophy 2025 semi-final against Central Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground B, Bengaluru, on Thursday, September 4.
After West Zone captain Shardul Thakur chose to bat first, Jaiswal opened the innings along with Harvik Desai. Unfortunately, things didn’t go well for the young Indian batter. After hitting a boundary off Khaleel Ahmed, he was dismissed just a couple of balls later, scoring only 4 runs from 3 deliveries.
This was a rare failure for Jaiswal, who has already secured his spot in the Indian Test team. He would have wanted more time in the middle before India’s upcoming home series against West Indies and South Africa, but this outing didn’t go as planned.
It is also important to note that the RR young star was overlooked from the India's squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to take place on September 9. However, he was named in the reserves along with Dhruv Jurel, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar and Riyan Parag.
West Zone Lose Another Wicket After Jaiswal
Things didn’t improve much for West Zone at the start. Soon after Jaiswal’s dismissal, Harvik Desai was also sent back for just one run by Deepak Chahar. However, Aarya Desai (18*) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (7*) were holding the innings together, with West Zone at 32 for 2 after 11 overs.
The match still promises excitement, as big names like Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Tanush Kotian will be looking to put up strong performances and push their cases for national selection. While West Zone have a strong squad on paper, Central Zone have shown they are no easy opponents.
