Robin Uthappa has announced his retirement from all forms of the game. The Karnataka-based cricketer dropped a heartfelt note across his social media handles on Wednesday, September 14.

Notably, Uthappa was one of the primary architects of India’s win at the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup, having played crucial knocks against Pakistan and Australia.

In his open letter, the right-hander thanked the BCCI and the Karnataka Cricket Association for giving him opportunities at the competitive level. The 36-year-old also thanked his teammates, coaches, mentors and all the IPL franchises he ever represented.

In an expansive letter, he further appreciated his fans, well-wishers and friends for their support throughout his cricketing journey.

Robin Uthappa brings down curtains to his career

Robin Uthappa made his competitive debut in the 2002-03 domestic season for Karnataka. He made his international debut four years later and ended up playing 46 ODIs and 13 T20I matches for the country between 2006 and 2015.

The cricketer, however, regularly featured across IPL seasons, having played for franchises like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. Moreover, the dashing batter even lifted the trophy twice, with KKR in 2014 and with CSK in 2021.

He also won the Orange Cap in 2014, thus becoming only the second Indian batsman after all-time great Sachin Tendulkar to win the coveted title.
