Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa is facing an arrest warrant following allegations of Provident Fund (PF) fraud amounting to INR 23 lakh. The warrant was issued by PF Regional Commissioner Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, who directed the Pulakeshinagar police to take action.
Uthappa, who managed Centuries Lifestyle Brand Private Limited, is accused of deducting PF contributions from employee salaries but allegedly failing to deposit the funds into their respective accounts.
Robin Uthappa Is Hiding From Police?
Commissioner Reddy issued a letter on December 4 instructing police to execute the arrest warrant. However, the warrant was returned to the PF office as Robin Uthappa is believed to have changed his residence. Authorities are currently investigating to locate the former cricketer and ensure compliance with the law.
According to Section 405 of the Indian Penal Code, Uthappa might be found guilty of 'criminal breach of trust'. According to the section, employers who deduct employee contributions from a Provident Fund (PF) or Family Pension Fund are legally responsible for depositing those funds. If they fail to deposit these deducted contributions, they are considered to have dishonestly misused the money, violating the law.
Robin Uthappa's Career So Far
Robin Uthappa, who last participated in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament in November, showed impressive form, almost as if he had never left the game, despite retiring from all forms of cricket in 2022. The right-handed wicketkeeper batter has played 46 ODIs scoring 934 runs at a strike rate of 90.59.
However, he was particularly impressive in his IPL days where his last stint was with the Chennai Super Kings. Uthappa smashed 4952 runs in 205 matches at a strike rate of 130.35 in his IPL career.
Recently, he was also seen in the role of cricket broadcaster for IPL. However, the allegations will tarnish his reputation in the industry, making it difficult for him to face the camera again.
