In a significant development, swashbuckling Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 lakhs and is all set to miss Delhi Capitals' upcoming IPL 2024 face-off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru due to over rate offence.

Notably, the Capitals were found guilty of slow over rate in their previous group-stage clash against Rajasthan Royals, leading to Pant's hefty punishment.

As per the IPL code of conduct, if a team is found guilty of the over rate offence for the third time in the tournament, the captain is penalised INR 30 lakhs besides being handed one-match suspension.

Pant’s absence could adversely affect DC in the all-important face-off as it holds significant importance for them.

Besides taking some brave calls for his side, the explosive batter has showcased remarkable consistency with the bat this season, amassing 413 runs at an average of 41.30 and a strike rate of 156.44. In his absence, promising batter Abhishek Porel will likely don the keeping gloves.

As Pant won’t play, DC might bring David Warner back, handing him the captaincy for this fixture. With six wins in twelve matches, Delhi Capitals are pretty much alive in the playoffs race and would be keen to boost their chances with a victory against RCB.
