In a thrilling, high-scoring encounter, the Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a vital 20-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals, keeping their hopes alive in the competition. Despite facing a formidable challenge from RR skipper Sanju Samson, who nearly steered his team to victory, DC managed to hold on till the end.

Rajasthan Royals' chase of 222 got off to a rocky start with the early dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, followed by a struggling innings from Jos Buttler, who managed only 19 runs from 17 balls.

However, it was Samson's magnificent 86 off 46 balls that kept RR in contention until his controversial dismissal turned the tide. Subsequently, RR's batting faltered, and they fell short, finishing with 201/8 in 20 overs.

After the match, Pant was seen offering consolation to Samson during the post-match handshakes, as captured in a video shared by the IPL social media handle. Pant's gesture of shaking hands and sharing a warm hug with the opposition skipper showcased the spirit of sportsmanship.

Earlier in the game, Rajasthan Royals elected to field first. Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start, with Jake Fraser-McGurk smashing a rapid 50 off just 20 balls and dominating the powerplay. Abishek Porel continued the momentum with a brilliant 65 off 36 balls, while Tristan Stubbs contributed a quickfire 41 off 20 balls, guiding the Capitals to a formidable total of 221/8 in 20 overs.

Both Pant and Samson have secured spots in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. While Pant is expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman, Samson's impressive performances in IPL 2024 may compel the team management to consider him for the playing XI ahead of Pant.
