Why Did Axar Patel Complete His Quota In A Single Spell In The First Seven Overs Vs LSG?

On Tuesday, April 22, Lucknow Super Giants hosted Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025 match 40 at the Ekana Stadium. The Axar Patel-led side won the toss and opted to field first. The decision turned out to be a nightmare as LSG got off to a flying start at their home.

Notably, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram took on the DC bowlers and whacked them all across the park. For a change, Mitchell Starc didn't open the bowling but rather captain Axar Patel took the new ball.

Axar bowled the first over and interestingly he bowled four overs consecutively in a single spell and completed his quota of overs. But why did Axar Patel bowl out his overs in a single spell?

Why Did Axar Patel Complete His Quota Of Overs Early On?

Axar, being the captain bowled his four overs early on in the innings as a tactical decision since LSG is a left-handed heavy team. In the middle-order, LSG have Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, and David Miller, who would have taken on Axar, who is a off-spinner and it would have been an easy task for a left-hand batter to hit Axar.

Thus, Axar bowled his overs early on and reserved the likes of Mitchell Starc, who have been effective against Nicholas Pooran. Meanwhile, Axar's planning did wonders as Starc indeed got the crucial wicket of Pooran.

At the time of writing this article, LSG are 107/2 and DC managed to put breaks on the scoring rate.
