Devdutt Padikkal made a dream return to the India A side with a brilliant century against Australia A in Lucknow, reminding everyone why he is considered one of India’s brightest batting prospects. His IPL franchise, RCB, meanwhile, dropped a special post to celebrate his heroics.
The left-hander from Karnataka resumed play on the fourth morning with an overnight score of 86 and wasted no time in reaching three figures. He needed just 20 balls to bring up his seventh First-Class hundred, showing confidence and control against the Australian attack.

Devdutt Padikkal also achieved another big milestone during the innings as he crossed 3000 runs in first-class cricket, reaching the mark in his 74th innings. At just 25 years old, this achievement highlights his consistency and potential to be a long-term prospect for India in the red-ball format.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) dropped a special appreciation post for Padikkal on their social media. The left-hander was part of RCB’s historic IPL title-winning campaign in 2025, but an injury forced him out midway through the tournament.

That being said, this century (150) comes at a crucial time for Devdutt Padikkal, who has been out of the spotlight for a while. Since making his Test debut against England in Dharamsala last year, where he scored a fine half-century, he has played only one more Test match.
That came in Perth against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where he scored 0 and 25. Since then, he was left out of India’s Test squad, including the tour of England earlier this year.
Padikkal-Jurel Stitch Big Partnership For India A
Batting at No. 4 in the first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A, Devdutt Padikkal stitched together a strong partnership with wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. The duo added over 200 runs for the fifth wicket, putting India A in a strong position to chase down Australia A’s first-innings total of 532/6 declared. The youngsters’ intent and skills will further allow India to build a strong pool for the red-ball side.
