The ICC World Cup 2023 has been a showcase of cricketing brilliance, with players from various nations stepping up to deliver memorable performances.

Ponting names top three players of World Cup 2023

As the tournament progresses towards its closing stages, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has highlighted three players who have made a significant impact. These standout performers, according to Ponting, are Quinton de Kock and Marco Jansen from South Africa, and Australian spinner Adam Zampa.

Zampa faced initial struggles in the tournament but has since made a remarkable turnaround. His last five matches have been particularly impressive, yielding 18 wickets and making him the top wicket-taker of the tournament. Ponting praised Zampa's resilience and his ability to bounce back from a challenging start, remarking on his current position as one of the leading wicket-takers.

"It's very hard to go past Adam Zampa, the leading wicket taker in the tournament. He played the first two games and took no wickets and he has bounced back now sits up top with 18 or 19 wickets. He has been outstanding,” said Ponting.

Ponting further reckoned that De Kock has been phenomenal in what is likely his final ODI World Cup. Scoring four centuries, he has been a key figure in South Africa's strong performance and march to the knockout stage. He commended de Kock's consistent and influential batting, which has been integral to the team's success.

"Quinton de Kock has four hundreds in this World Cup and it's probably his last World Cup. It's very hard to go past him as he has led a very strong South African batting brigade," added the former world champion.

Jansen also caught Ponting's eye due to his dual role in the team. As a link between the batting and bowling units, the young southpaw has been vital for South Africa, particularly in the early stages of matches. According to the Australian, Jansen’s ability to take early wickets with the new ball and contribute valuable lower-order runs has been crucial.

"The last one, I'm actually going for another South African in Marco Jansen. What he has been able to provide South Africa with the new ball taking wickets upfront, setting up their bowling innings with Powerplay wickets and also contributing with some handy low order runs," concluded Ponting.
