On this day, four years ago, the cricketing community witnessed an incredible display of skill, character, and will-power from Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final match against New Zealand.

Jadeja's breathtaking knock had India on the brink of victory

Jadeja's blistering innings of 77 runs off just 59 balls almost single-handedly brought India back into the game from a position where a big loss seemed likely.

The World Cup 2019 semi-final was played at Old Trafford in Manchester with a spot in the final at stake. After winning the toss, New Zealand elected to bat first and managed to post a competitive total of 239/8 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to brilliant knocks by Ross Taylor (74) and Kane Williamson (67).

In response, India's chase got off to a disastrous start as they lost their top three batsmen with just five runs on the board. With the wickets falling quickly, the onus was on the experienced duo of MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to resurrect the innings.

Coming in to bat at number eight, Jadeja showcased his underrated batting skills right from the outset. Displaying a combination of clean hitting and intelligent stroke-making, he launched a spectacular counter-attack against the New Zealand bowlers, giving India hope when all seemed lost.

Jadeja found an able ally in Dhoni, and the duo stitched together a vital 116-run partnership, renewing Indian hopes of a famous victory. The left-hander did not let any bowler settle, taking them to the cleaners with his impeccable timing and power hitting.

The southpaw’s innings was laced with four boundaries and as many sixes, with each shot resonating with the crowd and lifting the spirits of Indian fans across the globe. Jadeja's calculated aggression left the opposition stunned and injected a much-needed momentum into India's innings.

However, the dream was eventually shattered when the all-rounder was caught in the deep while attempting to clear the boundary. His dismissal was followed by Dhoni's heartbreaking run-out, and India fell painfully short of the target by 18 runs, ending their World Cup 2019 campaign.

Although the result did not go in India's favour, Jadeja's heroic knock received widespread acclaim and earned him accolades for his fighting spirit and ability to perform under pressure.
