Ahead of the crucial second Test against New Zealand in Pune, India's bowling coach Morne Morkel took a surprising role as a net bowler to assist batters in their preparation. In a video shared by the BCCI, the former South African pacer was seen rolling his arms over in the nets, marking his first bowling stint in almost a year.
Morne Morkel, after a disastrous stint with the Pakistan cricket team as a bowling coach, joined forces with team India upon head coach Gautam Gambhir's recommendation. As one of the most celebrated South African pacers, Morkel was tasked to guide the developing and established Indian pacers in the right direction.

In a video viral on social media, the 40-year-old admitted that he had been cautious while bowling to avoid embarrassing himself by picking up an injury.
But overall, Morkel enjoyed bowling and relived the old memories of his time playing in the subcontinent conditions. Notably, the Protea pacer had 21 wickets in 8 Tests played in India with a best figure of 6/54.

Gill, Pant declared fit ahead of the second Test
In a positive development, Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who took a blow on his knee in the first Test in Bengaluru, has been declared fit for the upcoming game. On the other hand, Shubman Gill, who missed the last game with neck stiffness, is also available for selection. It remains to be seen if KL Rahul manages to retain his place in the playing XI, given his unsatisfactory performances in the recent past.
