Rishabh Pant, who sustained a knee injury during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, has been declared fit to play the second Test in Pune scheduled for October 24, as reported by Indian Express. The injury occurred on the second day when Pant was hit on his knee, which was previously operated on after his near-fatal car accident in December 2022.
Dynamic wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been a key contributor to India's Test lineup since his debut. His attacking style of play, irrespective of the situation, makes him a special talent that Team India profoundly cherishes.
Rishabh Pant's knee injury not yet serious
However, Pant suffered a serious injury scare during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. After taking a blow on his operated knee, Pant immediately walked off the field to be replaced by Dhruv Jurel.
He managed to bat, though, with pain relief injections but never looked comfortable running between the wickets. Irrespective of the struggles, Rishabh Pant showcased utmost resilience and determination to score 99 off 105 balls to keep India in the hunt in a challenging contest.
Having said that, ahead of the second Test scheduled at Pune for October 24, Indian Express reported that Rishabh Pant is declared fit and will be available for selection if team management deems it necessary.
Notably, captain Rohit Sharma stated earlier how they want to be extra careful with Pant, given the physical trauma he went through in the aftermath of his car crash. Hence, despite being fit, it's plausible the management will opt for Jurel instead, as a five-game crucial away series against Australia is on the cards.
It's important to note that Team India has yet to release a statement on Pant's injury status, and these reports are mere speculations at this point.
India to prepare a slow turner for second Test
After a disappointing loss to New Zealand in the first Test, India is eager to bounce back in the upcoming second Test scheduled at Pune. Reports suggest that the hosts have requested a slow-turning pitch to better suit their strengths. According to Cricinfo, the Pune pitch is being prepared with black soil, which will result in a slower surface with less bounce and this strip will offer more assistance to spinners.
