The team managament, including head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain, Rohit Sharma desire to have a spin surface and have been regularly monitoring the work of the Pune curator. The grass has been shaven off the surface, with the sun beating down for the last couple of days. This would make the surface dry and will assist the spinners from Day 1.

Ever since Team India reached MCA Stadium, Pune, the captain-coach duo have been monitoring the work of the curators, but with light rain shower taking place in Pune for the last couple of days, it cannot be said how much time the groundstaffs have gotten to prepare the deck according to the demands of the India side.

In the current WTC points table, India sit comfortably at the top of the pile. However, a loss against New Zealand in Bengaluru has dented their percentage. India still need to win a minimun of 3 matches to secure their place in the WTC finale.

Two matches are left against the Kiwis, and 5 against the Australian side, out of which, India need to win three games. The away tour of Australia will be a tough affair, and hence, the Rohit Sharma led side will be eager to win the remaiming two matches, so that the job becomes easier when they tour Australia.
