Kane Williamson is set to return to the Durban’s Super Giants franchise in this year’s SA20 2025-26 season in South Africa. The legendary New Zealand batter also represented the team back during SA20 2025 earlier this year, before getting released by the franchise.

Williamson has now been recalled back into the Super Giants set up as a replacement for Bangladesh spinner and bowling all-rounder Taijul Islam.

The Durban’s Super Giants acquired Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam for a sum of R500,000 (approx. US$28,858) at the SA20 2025-26 mega auction back in September. However, he is set to miss the entirety of the upcoming season.

Taijul Islam has now been replaced by legendary New Zealand batter Kane Williamson, who also represented the Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) franchise in the previous edition of the tournament. In eight matches of SA20 2025, Williamson aggregated 233 runs in seven innings at an average of 46.60 and a strike rate of nearly 120.

It is worth noting that the seasoned New Zealand pro announced his retirement from T20Is earlier this month. He is also currently on a casual agreement with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to gain flexibility in participating in overseas T20 leagues.

Kane Williamson will now be joining fellow overseas stars like Noor Ahmad, West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine, blistering English batter Jos Buttler, former Namibia cricketer David Wiese among others in the DSG set up for SA20 2025-26.

The tournament is scheduled to commence from December 26 onwards later this year, thus marking an early start in lieu of next year’s 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The DSG will go up against defending champions MI Cape Town in the opening match of the competition in Cape Town.
