Wishes poured in unison for India's Jasprit Bumrah, who tonked the legendary England speedster Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over of the ongoing Edgbaston Test.
It was the 84th over of the Indian innings when Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were running a last-wicket partnership. As the plan was to go for the kill, it had to be Bumrah, a better batter of the two, who would employ the strategy.
With Broad opting for the short-pitch ploy, Bumrah went hammer and tongs, smashing as many as 35 runs in the over, out of which six runs were extras.
With this, the stand-in India captain now holds a world record to score most runs in an over of a Test match, which was earlier in the name of Brian Lara, George Bailey, and Keshav Maharaj.
In a humorous tweet, former South Africa cricketer Robin Peterson, who was at the receiving end of Lara's wrath, seemed happy for Bumrah's assault on Broad.
Notably, the left-arm spinner was hammered for 28 runs in an over of the Test match. In 2003 against the West Indies, Peterson got tonked all over the park while bowling to Lara.
"Sad to lose my record today oh well, records are made to be broken I guess. Onto the next one," Peterson wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, England are already five wickets down at the score of 84 after 27 overs at Stumps, Day-2. Skipper Ben Stokes (0* of 4) and Jonny Bairstow (12* of 47) are at either end of the 22 yards.
After helping India reach 416 with his late burst, Bumrah has dented England's top-order, claiming the wickets of their openers and Shami and Siraj sharing one each.
