ENG vs IND | 'There is much to be excited about'- Nasser Hussain on Matthew Potts

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain, has given a huge vote of confidence to young Middlesex seamer Matthew Potts following the impressive performances that the 23-year-old has dished out this summer.

Potts, who made his debut against reigning WTC champions New Zealand at Lord's last month, has been quite impressive in the 4 Tests that he has played so far.

The youngster made an immediate impact at Lord's as he claimed 4/13 in his very first innings, which included the prized scalp of Kane Williamson.

Overall, Potts finished as England's leading wicket-taker and the second-most successful bowler of the series, with 14 wickets in three games @ 23.29 apiece.

Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Hussain hailed Potts for his all-round skills, his temperament, discipline and his overall attitude.

However, the former England skipper believes that if there is one area where the tall seamer needs to work on is how to counter left-handed batters.

Potts was taken to the cleaners by Rishabh Pant during the wicketkeeper's whirlwind 111-ball 146 on the first day of the Edgbaston Test.

Hussain urged Potts to work with Stuart Broad and James Anderson

"Now Potts has two exceptional bowlers to left-handers in Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad to learn from and maybe he could sit down and talk to them about it. They both tend to go round the wicket to the lefties whereas so far Potts has tried both round and over and it is just an area he will have to work on now he is at the highest level," wrote Hussain.

The veteran cricketer also heaped high praise on his batting ability, adding that he is confident that the 23-year-old will cement his place in the side in the long term.

"Otherwise there is much to be excited about. Potts has a big heart, he's good in the field and he is better with the bat than we have seen with England so far.

He will have seen how Jamie Overton made 97 in the final Test against New Zealand and will realise he has to contribute some runs to be confident of cementing his long-term place in this England side," he added.

Potts dismissed Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohi in India's first innings but Pant and Jadeja eventually spoiled his overall stats. He finished with figures of 2-105 in 20 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah's Assault On Broad at Edgbaston Reminds Sachin Tendulkar of Yuvraj Singh

India's stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, on Saturday, scripted history in the ongoing fifth and final Test match against England. The star fast bowler came to bat at number 10 and went bonkers with the bat as he whacked an unbeaten 31 off just 16 balls and got the crowd on its feet. Bumrah launched an assault against senior English pacer Stuart Broad who now holds the undesirable world record of conceding the most runs in a single over (35 runs) in the history of Test cricket. The 28-year-old surpassed West Indies legend Brian Lara's record of 28 runs to become the batter with the highest runs off a single over in Test cricket history. Broad, who was smashed all over the park by veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, 15 years back, must have experienced a 'Deja Vu' moment when he was taken to the cleaners by India pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the most brutal way possible. Now, the English pacer conceded 35 runs in an over and claimed an unwanted record of bowling the most expensive over in Test cricket history. The Nottingham-based seamer already clenches the record for most runs conceded in an over in the shortest format when Yuvraj Singh smacked him for six sixes in the 2007 T20 World Cup. Broad holds the record, along with Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya, who was also bludgeoned for as many sixes in an over by Kieron Pollard last year. Bumrah's miraculous inning was highly enjoyed and appreciated on social media. From fans to cricket pundits, all have been busy showering praises on the India bowling star. Amidst all the appreciation, the most remarkable for Bumrah would be the tweet from the 'God of Cricket', Sachin Tendulkar, who compared Bumrah's 35 runs to Yuvraj's feat in an over against the same bowler. "Kya yeh Yuvi hai ya Bumrah!? 2007 ki yaad dilaa dii..," the legendary cricketer wrote in his tweet. The stand-in skipper's cameo comprised two maximums and four boundaries. Bumrah's sensational knock helped India finish with a huge total of 416 on the board, with veteran England pacer James Anderson bagging a five-wicket haul. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant scored centuries for the visitors as they pulled India out of trouble after the hosts reduced them 98/5 on the first day. Earlier, the duo put up a record 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket to help the visitors post a mammoth total on the board.
