On Saturday, December 20, the BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 that begins from February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and captain Suryakumar Yadav addressed the press, where they made the squad public.

The 15-member list is full of surprises as Shubman Gill, who acted as India's vice-captain in the past few months, failed to get a place in the team. Surprisingly, Jitesh Sharma too faced the axe as the management recalled Ishan Kishan back in the team.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on the IPL team-wise distribution of players selected for the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

Mumbai Indians - 4

The Mumbai Indians have the most players who have made it to the playing XI. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav, the captain himself, is an integral part of the squad. Further, Tilak Varma, who is the no. The 2-ranked T20I batter in the world is part of the squad and will bat at No.3, as confirmed by Suryakumar Yadav.

Hardik Pandya is also part of the 15-member squad and will be the star all-rounder in the team. Surprisingly, he has not been promised any leadership role and will just play as an all-rounder.

The fourth player from the Mumbai Indians, who is a part of India's squad, is Jasprit Bumrah. The right-arm seamer will spearhead the pace attack.

Kolkata Knight Riders - 3

KKR's star spinner Varun has been included in the 15-member list as he continues to be one of India's primary spinners. The right-arm seamer will form a formidable pair with Kuldeep Yadav.

Rinku Singh is likely to be the backup option for India going into the T20 World Cup 2026. The southpaw was part of the Asia Cup squad, where he played just a solitary ball in the entire tournament and scored the winning runs.

One more KKR star, who featured in the 15-member list, is Harshit Rana. The right-arm seamer is growing in ranks and has been part of India's white-ball set-up for the last couple of years.

Delhi Capitals - 2

Delhi Capitals feature the third-most players in the Asia Cup 2025 squad, as Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will feature for the Men in Blue in the continental cup.

Axar Patel has been named as India's vice-captain, replacing Shubman Gill, who has failed to find a place in the team. Meanwhile, Yadav faces tough competition as there are chances that the management might decide to bench him by playing an extra batter.

Chennai Super Kings - 2

For CSK, Shivam Dube is a part of the squad. The southpaw is an integral part of India's T20I set-up and also continues to be a key player for the Men In Yellow.

Sanju Samson is another Chennai Super Kings star who is all set to represent India in the T20 World Cup 2026. The right-handed batter was out of the team, but with Gill's exclusion, Sanju is all set to open the innings for India.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 2

For SRH, Abhishek Sharma is the only player part of India's Asia Cup squad. The southpaw is the No. 1-ranked T20I player in the world and won the player of the tournament award for India in the Asia Cup after his heroics in the entire competition.

Unlike the Asia Cup, two stars from SRH will feature for India in the T20 World Cup 2026. Ishan Kishan has made a remarkable return to the team. His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 has helped him get a spot back in the Indian team.

Gujarat Titans - 1

For the Gujarat Titans, they have Washington Sundar, who has cemented his place under the coaching tenure of Gautam Gambhir.

Punjab Kings - 1

For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh has been added to India's squad, who will be the sole left-arm seamer for the Men in Blue in the continental cup.
