Former head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) Andy Flower is on the brink of assuming the coaching mantle for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Flower is set to succeed Mike Hesson, the current director of cricket operations of RCB, whose tenure with the franchise will culminate on August 31, according to the latest report from Cricbuzz.

The impending departure of Hesson and the RCB support staff members, including head coach Sanjay Bangar, is also anticipated.

Flower's association with the Lucknow Super Giants concluded earlier this year after his two-year contract concluded following IPL 2023. The team, owned by Sanjiv Goenka, has already secured the services of ex-Australian head coach Justin Langer.

Previous reports indicated Flower's discussions with multiple franchises following his departure from the LSG team, including the Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, it has since been clarified that the Bengaluru-based RCB has secured his services for the forthcoming years. While a collaboration between AB de Villiers, an RCB icon , and Flower as a mentor is a possibility, no official confirmation has been provided.

Although the franchise has not officially confirmed the news, reports within the IPL community strongly indicate that the Flower deal with RCB has been finalized. The franchise officials had stated last month that they couldn't make a decision on the coach while the contracts of the Hesson-led staff were still in effect.

Since Hesson's appointment in 2019, RCB achieved playoff berths for three consecutive years before missing out on the 2023 season. The franchise is now eager to inject fresh ideas as they strive for their maiden IPL title. The disappointment of not making the playoffs in the 2023 edition left their large fan base disheartened.

The future course of action for RCB is not yet clear. It remains uncertain whether the franchise will opt for a complete overhaul or retain some members of the support staff in their existing roles.
