Ravindra Jadeja is all set to make his much-awaited return to domestic cricket. He will feature in Saurashtra's next Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, beginning on January 23 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Jadeja last played in the Ranji Trophy in January 2023 when he led Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in Chennai.
After a year, he’s back to represent his team in the prestigious tournament. Though the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) officials have not yet confirmed his exact participation, all indications suggest that Jadeja will play.
The upcoming game will be particularly thrilling, as Jadeja will face off against Rishabh Pant, the explosive wicketkeeper-batter. Pant has also confirmed his availability for the Delhi team in the Ranji Trophy. Under the leadership of Ayush Badoni, Pant will bring his usual energy to the match.
BCCI's Domestic Cricket Mandate
The inclusion of Jadeja and Pant in their respective teams also comes in the wake of the BCCI's recent directive. The BCCI has mandated that all national players must participate in domestic matches unless injured or unavailable.
This decision aims to boost the standard of domestic cricket and provide international players with valuable match practice. If they don’t comply, there could be consequences such as pay cuts or sanctions in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
This policy has led to several other big names returning to play domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma has already confirmed his participation for Mumbai in their upcoming match against Jammu & Kashmir. Other players, including Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have also announced their involvement in the next round of Ranji games.
Meanwhile, Jadeja's return to domestic cricket is not just about the Ranji Trophy—it also plays a crucial role in his preparation for international cricket. Recently, Jadeja has faced scrutiny for a dip in form, but participating in the Ranji Trophy is expected to help him regain his rhythm and confidence.
