In a massive setback for Afghanistan, ace spinner Rashid Khan has been ruled out of the much-anticipated three-match T20I series against India. The experienced player underwent a lower back surgery and hasn't fully regained match fitness.

Rashid's absence could hurt Afghanistan in this series, as he can score handy runs down the order besides giving four quality overs with the ball.

Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran has confirmed the development. In Rashid's absence, his Gujarat Titans' teammate Noor Ahmad will likely spearhead the Afghan spin unit alongside the lethal duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi.

Hazratullah Zazai will open the batting alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with the dynamic duo of Ibrahim Zadran and Ikram AliKhil slotted at number three and four, respectively.

Swashbuckling southpaw Najibullah Zadran is expected to play the finisher's role alongside the all-round duo of Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi.

Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq are expected to play as the pacers, with former captain Gulbadin Naib likely to be the number eight. Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad will play as the spin bowling options.
