Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan endured a night to forget in England’s The Hundred, setting an unwanted record for the most expensive bowling figures in the tournament’s history. In 4 overs, Khan leaked 59 runs without a single wicket.
The damage was done largely by England’s hard-hitting batter Liam Livingstone, who played a match-winning innings of 69* off just 27 balls for Birmingham Phoenix.
Coming in during a tense chase against Oval Invincibles, Livingstone targeted Rashid’s slower deliveries and slightly off lengths, hammering 3 consecutive sixes and 2 fours to pile up 26 runs in 5 balls.
Most Runs Conceded Tn The Hundred
- Rashid Khan – 4 overs – 59 runs – 0 wickets
- David Wiese – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
- David Payne – 4 overs – 53 runs – 1 wicket
- Steven Finn – 3 overs – 51 runs – 2 wickets
- Chris Wood – 4 overs – 49 runs – 0 wickets
Meanwhile, for Oval Invincibles, Rashid Khan conceded a massive 59 runs from his four overs (20 balls) without taking a single wicket. This was not only the worst bowling performance in The Hundred but also the most expensive spell of Rashid’s entire T20 career.
With Livingstone in full flow, Birmingham Phoenix chased down the target of 181 runs with four wickets in hand and just two balls remaining.
While the crowd roared for Livingstone’s heroics, Rashid’s struggles were evident as he walked off with figures of 0/59, numbers that will haunt any bowler, let alone one of the world’s most feared in the T20 format.
Rashid’s dip in form comes after his recovery from back surgery following the 2023 World Cup. He previously struggled in the Champions Trophy and also the IPL, and blamed rushed rehabilitation for the sudden drop.
Liam Livingstone Sets Up A Unique Record Vs Rashid
To make matters worse, Liam Livingstone became the first batter to score over 200 career T20 runs against Rashid Khan. No other player has even crossed the 150-run mark against the Afghan spin wizard. However, Livingstone has proved to be a different beast, especially when Rashid is struggling with form for a long time.
