Ranji Trophy 2021-22 | U19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull included in Delhi's squad

India's latest U19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull is all set to get a taste of red-ball cricket. The talented middle-order batsman has been picked in Delhi's squad for the forthcoming season of the Ranji Trophy.

Dhull was one of the many shining lights for Team India during the victorious U19 World Cup campaign in the Caribbean.

The Delhi lad impressed with his technique, his ability to nail the cut and the pull shot, but most importantly, it was his temperament that stood out.

The right-handed batsman displayed nerves of steel in the semi-final clash against the Australians as he weathered the storm initially before launching an epic counterattack (110 off 110 deliveries) to become just the third Indian skipper to score a ton in the U19 World Cups.

Due to Covid-19 and white-ball commitment, Dhull hasn't played the Ranji Trophy yet and the upcoming season will be a great opportunity for him to test his mettle in tougher conditions against the red ball.

Dhull and his WC-winning team were facilitated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday afternoon during the 2nd ODI between India and the West Indies.

"His confidence is high and even though he hasn’t played a lot of red-ball matches, we want him to get a taste of first-class cricket,” a selector was quoted as saying by PTI.

Meanwhile, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has communicated to DDCA chief Rohan Jaitley about his unavailability for the upcoming season.

Veteran seamer Pradeep Sangwan will lead the Delhi team in the Ranji Trophy this year. Indian seamer Navdeep Saini has also been included in the squad.

As for Dhull, the young lad hasn't had much time to reflect on the World Cup triumph. He made a short trip to his home town on Tuesday before joining the squad in Guwahati later in the day.

Delhi's squad for Ranji Trophy 2021/22:

Pradeep Sangwan (C), Nitish Rana, Dhruv Shorey, Priyansh Arya, Yash Dhull, Khsitij Sharma, Jonty Sidhu, Himmat Singh, Lalit Yadav, Anuj Rawat Wk, Lakshay Thareja wk, Navdeep Saini, Simarjit Singh, Mayank Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Vikas Mishra, Shivang Vashist, Shivam Sharma.

IND vs WI | 2nd ODI: India in command after bowlers rattle West Indies

India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna ripped through the West Indies top and middle-order during the second ODI of the series in Ahmedabad. The home side after batting first managed to put 237/9 in 50 overs and West Indies were off to a steady start with openers Shai Hope and Brandon King putting up 32 runs for the first wicket. But it was in the 8th over when Krishna provided India with the first breakthrough as he sent King packing for a 20-ball 18 after he was caught by Pant behind the stumps. The right-arm bowler then followed this with another scalp after he removed Darren Bravo for 1 off 3. He was also caught behind by Pant. Hope was then joined by Shamarh Brooks in the middle and the two batters tried to provide but couldn't really add many runs to the tally. Hope was the third batsman to go back in the hut after being caught by Suryakumar Yadav off Chahal for 27 off 54, leaving West Indies struggling at 52/3. But the misery didn't end here as Krishna then returned to remove Pooran for 9 off 13 while Shardul Thakur picked up the priced wicket of Jason Holder as the Caribbean side was left tottering at 76/5. Brooks was later joined by Akeal Hosein and the two batters tried to steady the ship as they chipped in with 41 runs for the sixth wicket. Just when the visiting team was looking stable in the chase a bit, Deepak Hooda who had made his debut in the previous match came in for his first over and got rid of Brooks who was caught by Suryakumar for 44 off 64.
