IPL 2022 | Five overseas players that have exceptional record at particular IPL venue

The IPL Auction is just a few sleeps away and it’s time for perhaps the biggest mega-auction in the history of the India Premier League. With the addition of two new franchises into the tournament, it will be very interesting to see where do the big names end up after the end of the auction scheduled on the 12th and 13th of February in Bengaluru. Some of the biggest names in world cricket are set to go under the hammer and we have a list of five overseas players who have excellent track records at particular venues and could turn out to be the major attraction in this year’s auction.

After thorough research on players and their record at a particular venue, we have assembled a list of players that could turn out to be a great addition to certain franchises in the league. Even though this year's IPL is set to be hosted in Maharashtra, these players will be of great use since the mega auction is all about planning for the next 3 years at least.

David Warner:

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper has been one of the best foreign players to have ever featured in the IPL. While the Aussie opener had a disappointing performance for his previous franchise last season, Warner bounced back strongly during the T20 World Cup to help Australia clinch their maiden ICC T20 World Cup.

With how things turned out for him at SRH, we can be pretty assured that we have seen the last of Warner with the Orange Army. Apart from his heroics at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium at Hyderabad, the Australian had some remarkable performances at Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium at Mohali.

In four matches at Mohali, he has scored 231 runs at an average of 77. While Warner has just played four games at the venue, his overall average is commendable and he could be a great addition for any side. With the departure of KL Rahul, Punjab Kings are in desperate need of an experienced opener as well as a player who can lead the side to their first-ever IPL trophy. David Warner perfectly fits the bill and we could see the opener play for the Kings in the upcoming season. Punjab have INR 72 crores left in their purse and have the money to splurge on a player like Warner who can provide the team with the stability they require.

Trent Boult

The Kiwi speedster is one of the best new-ball bowlers in the shortest form of the game. He has a knack of picking up wickets in the power play and is a great addition to any team. Mumbai Indians will surely look to get their man back in the auction to pair him up with Jasprit Bumrah once again but it is not going to be an easy task because a few other teams will also fancy a shot at having him at their disposal.

The left-armer has a brilliant track record at Arun Jaitley Stadium as well as the Eden Gardens. His outings at the Wankhede haven't been impressive but the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will surely take note of his record at their respective home grounds. The DCs left out Kagiso Rabada from their list of retention but Boult surely can fill those big boots.

Boult has bowled 41.5 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with fourteen wickets to his name, at an average of 23.25. On the other hand, the quick also has great figures at the Eden Gardens where he has picked up five wickets in his twelve overs at an exceptional average of 18.40.

Kagiso Rabada:

Over the past few years, Rabada has had an excellent partnership with Anrich Nortje at DC but they could only manage to retain the lethal Proteas duo. They would surely want KG back but it will be an uphill task because the speedster will attract a lot of bids for various franchises and isn't going to be a cheap option either.

KKR might look to rope in the South African spearhead because of his track record at the Eden Gardens. He is effective enough on any track but the help that the pacers get at Kolkata is something that will make him even more deadly.

While the marquee South African speedster has played just a couple of games at the Eden Gardens, he bagged four wickets at a remarkable average of 15.50. Other than Kolkata, the Protea quick has also been deadly at the Wankhede Stadium, picking up 6 wickets in four games at a nominal average of 21.

Quinton de Kock

A wicketkeeper, as well as an explosive opener, is a rare and in-demand commodity in the IPL auction. They are not as effective as De Kock when it comes to giving explosive starts and keeping up with the turning Indian tracks. He is a great option for all those franchisees who are looking for a wicket-keeping option.

The majority of the teams are without a keeper which means it will be a bidding war for the South African opener. His track record at the Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru suggests that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will surely give it a go. In 10 games at Chinnaswamy, QDK has amassed 384 runs at an average of 38.4 and a staggering strike rate of 146.56. Even though multiple teams will be interested in securing the services of the Proteas stumper, his previous franchise (Mumbai Indians) are sure to bid in attempts to re-sign the player, being a vital cog in their ranks in the past.

Faf du Plessis

The former South African skipper is one of the most experienced T20 players on this list. He might not have a destructive and powerful image but has been more than effective in the last few years as a franchise cricket wayfarer.

He has been in excellent touch in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as well. We might not see a bidding war for the South African but he is most likely to come to be sought after by a couple of franchises. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a lot of trust in him and will surely want him back but on the basis of his track record at the Wankhede, we might see some interest from Mumbai Indians.

He is someone who holds the innings and can also score quickfire runs. He has played 13 matches at the Wankhede and has scored 421 runs at an average of 42.10. Du Plessis possesses a strike rate of 131.26 on the ground which is surely a great addition to any franchise that manages to secure his signature.
