Rahul Chahar, the Indian spinner and Sunrise Hyderabad’s impact substitute appearance this season, is set to join Surrey for their final fixture of the County season against Hampshire this week. Interestingly, Chahar had been officially registered to play for the side at the start of September, and now he finally gets the opportunity to feature in this crucial contest.

Chahar excited to play first County match!

Rahul Chahar has already built an impressive profile in domestic and international cricket. He has played 24 first-class matches with best bowling figures of 9/148, alongside a tally of 87 wickets.

In addition, he has represented India in one ODI and 6 T20Is, further showcasing his ability to perform on big occasions. His knack for taking wickets at crucial times adds significant strength to Surrey’s bowling unit.

"I'm excited to join Surrey for this week's match. I'm coming here to have an impact and help the team in their final match of the season," Chahar said.

The call-up comes at a vital juncture, as Surrey suffered setbacks with both their frontline spinners, Will Jacks and Cam Steel, sidelined due to injury. This sudden shortage in the spin department prompted Surrey to bring Chahar into the squad.

Chahar, a replacement for Sai Kishore?

Alec Stewart, the club's high-performance advisor, welcomed the move, praising Chahar’s addition and expressing excitement at what he could contribute.

"Adding Rahul to the squad gives us another spin option at the Utilita Bowl. We had originally earmarked for Sai Kishore to return for the latter stages of the season but he unfortunately has a finger injury resulting in an operation has meant he was unavailable," added Stewart.

Currently, Surrey trails Nottinghamshire by 14 points heading into the final round, making this match a must-win. They also hope Warwickshire can restrict Nottinghamshire to fewer than 11 points in their own fixture if they want to make it to the next round.
