Former India fielding coach R Sridhar feels that Rishabh Pant possesses all the great qualities to become a successful captain of the Indian cricket team in the future.

Sridhar's remarks came after he was asked about the prospect of appointing Pant as the future captain of the Indian team.

“I think no one is born with all the skills. Any skill that any person possesses is born out of the situation that he has been in and learned. MS (Dhoni), he grew up playing with adults and elderly kids. That is where he picked up all his cricketing acumen. Rishabh (Pant) has grown up in a similar kind of environment. He grew up playing with big achievers. That is where he picks his cricket smartness from. He is going to be a leader in the future. Once he starts separating his leadership from his batsmanship, then that is entertainment confirmed,"

Pant first became captain in the latter half of the IPL 2021 for the Delhi Capitals, before assuming the role for the full season in IPL 2022. Just after the tournament got over, Pant got the chance to captain the Indian team for the very first time in the five-match home T20I series against South Africa, after KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to injury. India drew the series 2-2 against the Proteas.

While Pant is a strong contender to become India's future leader, the 24-year-old dynamic batter still has a long way to go.
