Vinesh was 100 grams overweight ahead of her Gold Medal match in the 50 kg wrestling match. R Ashwin was disappointed with how things panned for her in the event, and stated that Vinesh would be heartbroken and it would take her time to come to terms with the decision.

"It is a very sad thing. Four years, eight years. It is meditation. It is a ritual for Olympic athletes. They have been there for so many years. She would have brought a medal back. She would have brought a lot of medals to our country. She has faced a lot of difficulties. Now, she has retired. It is highly heartbreaking for Vinesh Phogat."

After her disqualification from the event, Vinesh took a tough decision to retire from professional wrestling. Apart from Ashwin, former cricketers in Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar also expressed their disappointment and came in support of Vinesh.

Ashwin further stated that the youngsters need to be motivated to win more medals for the nation. The Indian off-break bowler will likely be seen in action against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, starting next month.
