Asitha Fernando, the right-arm pacer has been announced as a replacement for Dushmantha Chameera who has withdrawn from the squad for the India series due to illness. Fernando has played three T20Is so far for Sri Lanka and will now join the trio of Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando in the 16-member squad.

Asitha's last T20I was also against India back in 2022 and in the last couple of years he has mostly played in red-ball format for Sri Lanka. Chameera's loss though is a big blow for the home team as he has the experience of playing with the Indian players in the IPL, and also adds an extra byte with his raw pace.

Charith Asalanka Named Captain Of Sri Lanka

As far as the whole squad is concerned, Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain of Sri Lanka for the first time with Wanindu Hasaranga stepping down. The squad contains a good mixture of youth and experience, and they would be looking to put up a strong performance against the reigning champions, India when the series starts on 27th of July.
