Punjab Kings, on Wednesday, dismissed the rumours regarding the sacking of their captain Mayank Agarwal ahead of the next season.

Some news agencies had earlier reported that Punjab Kings would sack Mayank Agarwal and replace him with Jonny Bairstow as the new captain from the next season onwards.

However, dismissing all the rumours, the franchise stated on social media that no team official has commented about the possible change in captaincy.

“News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to the captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise has been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same.”

Agarwal was appointed as the captain of the team after ex-skipper KL Rahul decided not to renew his contract.

Playing his first season as the full-time captain of an IPL franchise, the stylish batter had a disastrous season, managing only 196 runs at an average of just 16.33 and a strike rate of 122.50. After such a disappointing show, he was also dropped from the Indian team.
