Punjab Kings’ left handed batter Harpreet Singh Bhatia has undergone a successful keyhole spine surgery on Friday, June 9 at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. The 31-year-old confirmed that he was experiencing discomfort in his spine while playing for Punjab Kings in the recently concluded season of the Indian Premier League.

Harpreet also revealed the fact that he felt this is the right time for the surgery after playing the entire IPL 2023 with pain and discomfort. He has already begun his recovery and is hopeful to come back into the action soon, most probably for Chhattisgarh in the forthcoming domestic season.

In an Instagram post, Harpreet thanked the Punjab Kings’ medical staff, including their physios Andrew Leipus, Abhijit Kar, and Rahul Ahluwalia from Chhattisgarh as well. He further showed his gratitude to Dr. Abhay Nene, an Orthopedic spine surgeon, for overseeing the successful surgery procedures.

Harpreet cannot wait to get back

Following the surgery, Harpreet is determined to get back on the field soon. He confirmed he will be away for some time as his road to recovery has already begun.

“Just a small break for now, but I’ll be back with a bat in my hand soon. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh.”

Harpreet has been a constant performer for Chhattisgarh at the top of the order for years. As a result, he was bought by the Punjab Kings in the last auction ahead of the 16th edition of the IPL and made his return to India's premier franchise league after a remarkable gap of 10 years and 332 days, setting a new record for the longest gap between two appearances in the tournament’s history.

The left hander featured in three league matches and scored a total of 77 runs at an average of 25.67, including a match-winning  41 off 28 balls against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
