After a heartbreak in the Champions Trophy final Vs India, the New Zealand side moved towards a different challenge as their team will take on Pakistan in a white-ball series, with the T20Is taking place first. On Tuesday, the BlackCaps revealed their squad, with several IPL bound players missing in the squad.

The likes of Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, will all miss the Pakistan matches as they had prior commitments with their respective IPL sides. However, eyebrows were raised when there was no mention of Kane Williamson in the T20Is.

Why Williamson is not in T20I squad Vs Pakistan?

Kane Williamson, one of the best batters of the modern era was not drafted in the squad for the T20Is, and one main reason could be his recent injury record.

The star batter suffered from a quad injury during the Champions Trophy final Vs India and didn't even came out to field during India's run-chase. Over the years, the veteran batter has missed a lot of matches due to injuries and he wants to manage his workload to prolong his Test career.

Another reason could be that Williamson declined New Zealand's central contract, last year and wanted to try out his luck in the franchise leagues as well. He won't feature in the IPL 2025 season, but will take part in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and will play for Karachi Kings. As a result, he probably needs a break to get himself recharged for the PSL season.
