A lot was expected of Babar Azam in the ongoing tri-nation series against New Zealand and South Africa, but so far, the former captain has produced disappointing outings in both the matches. He has looked below par and got out quickly in both the matches to pile pressure on his teammates.

In the tournament opener Vs New Zealand, Pakistan needed a tricky 331 to win and Babar, who was opening the innings got dismissed for 10 off 23 balls as his team lost the match. Then, in the virtual knockout against the Proteas, the Men in Green were once again in a difficult position as they needed 353 to reach the finals and Babar once again failed to deliver, getting dismissed for 23.

Don't call me King: Babar Azam

The star batter of the team has been a disappointment as of late and speaking to the journalists after the game against South Africa, Babar urged people to stop calling him a "King", and he'll only be recognised as one after he achieved something significant with Pakistan team.

"Please stop calling me King. I am not King, I am not there yet. There are new roles for me now."

“Whatever I have done before is in the past. Every match is a fresh challenge, and I must focus on the present and future,” he added.

Babar was on the road to greatness till 2022, however, in the last 2 years, the former Pakistan skipper has witnessed a downfall. He hasn't scored an international century since August 2023 and hasn't delivered the goods for Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan beat SA to reach the finals

Pakistan lost three quick wickets, and looked down and out before captain Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha scripted history and helped Pakistan chase down record total. While Rizwan scored 122* off 128, Salman Ali Agha was even better as he notched up 134 off 103 balls to help his team chase down a mammoth 353.
