In a heartfelt gesture of support, Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoled and comforted Indian pacer Mohammed Shami following India's defeat in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia. Shami, the tournament's leading wicket-taker with an impressive tally of 24 scalps in seven matches, shared an emotional moment with the Prime Minister, as captured in a photo posted on social media.

Here's the tweet:

"Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!"

The Men in Blue, previously unbeaten in the tournament, faced a challenging final against Australia after dominating the league stage. Despite standout performances from players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India posted a target of 240 runs. However, Australian opener Travis Head's brilliant century guided the Aussies to victory in 43 overs.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 597 runs in 11 innings. The Indian bowling attack also showcased its prowess, with Shami leading the charts with 24 wickets, supported by impressive performances from Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav.
