India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, wanted his T20I team to play an aggressive brand of cricket, and it won’t be an understatement to say that young opener Abhishek Sharma has been a pioneer of this new style of Indian cricket. The southpaw has been a revelation in the T20I setup and was recently crowned the number one-ranked T20I batter.

He has been outstanding for Team India and has been their most destructive batter in the ongoing Asia Cup tournament. Leading the T20I rankings charts, Abhishek is yet to be displaced from the top, and after the game against Pakistan on Sunday, the southpaw surpassed KL Rahul in a historic milestone.

After the Pakistan game, where Abhishek tormented Shaheen Afridi, the opening batter has 884 rating points in the T20I batting charts (884). He now sits in the third place in the list of Indians with the most rating points earned in T20Is.

Before Abhishek, it was KL Rahul, who occupied the third spot with 861 points, which he earned in the 2018 England T20I tour. Interestingly, Abhishek is just behind two of India’s best T20I batters in terms of rating points.

In the all-time T20I tally, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli are the two Indians with the most rating points. While Surya had accumulated 912 points against New Zealand in 2023, Kohli achieved 909 points against England in 2014. They are the only two Indian batters who have the distinction of crossing the 900-rating points.

Abhishek Sharma's stellar T20I journey so far

The left-handed batter has been India’s main T20I weapon ever since his debut against Zimbabwe in 2024. From then on, he has gone from strength to strength, and the Indian management has also backed him. The hard-hitter has amassed 596 runs in 19 T20I matches, including two centuries.

However, the best part has been his strike rate, which stands at a whopping 195.40, which is well ahead of his peers.
