The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) got jolted by another pair of fresh resignations on October 30. Mere days after Gary Kirsten stepped down as head coach of Pakistan’s white-ball team, and just a few weeks after Babar Azam’s exit as national team’s ODI and T20I captain, PSL director Sohaib Sheikh and Head of Women’s cricket Tania Mallick also tendered their respective resignations.

As confirmed by the PCB via a media release, the two cricket administrators stepped down their respective roles to pursue ‘new career opportunities’.

PSL director steps down ahead of 2025 season

Just a few months prior to the launch of the PSL 2025 season, PSL director Sohaib Sheikh stepped down from his role to pursue another career opportunity. Sohaib had rejoined the PCB back in mid-2023, after having previously served the board from 2016 till 2019.

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket in Pakistan, also tendered her resignation. Her tenure had commenced back in October 2021 at the Gaddafi Stadium.

On October 30, PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer praised the two administrators for their contributions towards Pakistan cricket, and extended his best wishes towards both in their respective future endeavors.

Just a couple of days ago, former South African batter Gary Kirsten stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach. As per reports, the 2011 World Cup-winning coach ended his two-year term within six months over difference of opinion with the team management regarding the selection process.

Earlier this month, modern-day batting icon Babar Azam also stepped down as Pakistan’s ODI and T20I captain, doing so for the second time in less than a year. Under his second stint as leader, the Pakistan cricket team suffered a humiliating first-round exit at the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA earlier this year.

As of now, the Pakistan team is scheduled to play a series of three ODIs and three T20I matches in Australia between November 4 and November 18.
