Pakistan Super League (PSL) is about to get a financial health check. After 10 years of thrills, spills and nail-biters, the PCB has decided it’s time to put a price tag on the league and its six franchises and for that, they have called in the big guns: Ernst & Young, one of the world’s top audit firms.

Why PSL Needs A Valuation Now

The contracts of the six PSL franchises are up for renewal and with the league entering its second decade, new terms are on the table. A minimum 25% bump in franchise fees is expected and before locking those numbers, the PCB wanted an external expert to evaluate the league’s true worth.

Bids were invited, but in the end only one company showed up. E&Y first submitted its technical bid, then the financial one and now the deal is sealed. Starting next month, the firm will get six weeks to crunch the numbers and deliver a detailed report.

What The PSL Audit Will Cover

E&Y will reach out to both the PCB and the franchises for financial details. Franchises aren’t technically bound to open their books, but if they don’t, the firm will make its own estimates and that could hurt them when the final valuations come out.

In theory, franchises are supposed to share their accounts with the PCB every year but most of them have conveniently skipped that. This report could finally bring some accountability back into the system.

The evaluation comes at a time when PSL operations have been moving at snail’s pace under Salman Naseer. The board has been slow to set up a proper operations team and new commercial deals haven’t materialised either. Even the dates for the 11th edition were promised weeks ago but are still up in the air.

What Comes Next?

Once E&Y’s report lands in October, the PCB will finalise the revised franchise fees and also put a valuation on two potential new teams. That could open the door for PSL to expand beyond its current six-team structure, something fans have been waiting for.

The last edition of the PSL, played in April-May, saw Lahore Qalandars beat Quetta Gladiators in the final to bag their third trophy. With the league ready to enter a new chapter, all eyes will now be on how much the PSL and its teams are really worth.
