It seems like Pakistan has made up its mind to boycott the remainder of the Asia Cup 2025 event. The last few days have been a roller-coaster ride in the tournament, with uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s chances of playing in the remaining Asia Cup games after the handshake row with Team India.

Now, according to Geo News, the Pakistan team has been informed by their management to stay in the hotel as they will not play the upcoming clash against the UAE on Wednesday. Reportedly, the team was set to leave for the stadium in three minutes before they were informed about the final decision by the PCB.

Reportedly, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will hold a press conference soon to announce the official decision to pull out of the marquee event.

What led to Pakistan's reported boycott of Asia Cup?

The controversy started during the India vs Pakistan clash as the Indian skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, and his men decided not to shake Pakistan players’ hands as a gesture of solidarity with the Indian army for the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025.

When SKY hit the winning runs, he, alongside Shivam Dube, walked towards the dressing room, and reportedly, the dressing room door was shut. This infuriated Pakistan and its management as PCB filed an official complaint against the match referee, Andy Pycroft for allowing the Indian side to breach the Code of Conduct.

ICC rejected PCB’s plea to remove Pycroft from officiating in the remainder of the Asia Cup, and the team even threatened to pull out of the competition, a decision which they have most likely made.

In the post-match presentation after the India clash, Suryakumar Yadav paid tribute to the Indian army, and it triggered the Pakistan camp as they felt SKY was mixing politics with sports.
