Punjab Kings secured a thrilling win over defending champions KKR in match number 31 of the IPL 2025 season. Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer and Australian cricketer Georgia Voll won the prestigious ICC Player of the Month awards for the month of March 2025. In Pakistan, Ireland Women and Bangladesh Women registered comfortable victories at the World Cup 2025 Qualifiers.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, April 15.

Chahal, Jansen Win Low-Scoring Thriller For PBKS

Punjab Kings secured a comprehensive 16-run win over defending champions KKR in match 31 of the IPL 2025 season in Mullanpur, despite charting just 111 runs from 15.3 overs upfront. Opening batters Priyansh Arya (22 off 12) and Prabhsimran Singh (30 off 15) got off to an explosive start for the hosts, before Harshit Rana’s triple strike in the powerplay tilted the tide in KKR’s favour. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine also picked up two wickets each to envelop Punjab Kings to a below-par total.

Chasing 112, KKR dusted out for 95, despite finding themselves comfortably placed at 62-2 at one stage. Yuzvendra Chahal (4-28) and Marco Jansen (3-17) picked up seven wickets between them to trigger KKR’s colossal collapse.

Louise Little’s Five-For Pummels Thailand Women

Ireland Women recorded their first win of the Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers by defeating Thailand with a 46-run margin. Batting first, half-centuries from captain Gaby Lewis, Amy Hunter and Leah Paul (67* off 40) propelled Ireland to 305-4 from 50 overs after winning the toss.

In response, Thailand accrued just 259 in 49.1 overs, despite featuring a crafty 59 from wicketkeeper-batter Suwanan Khiaoto. Louise Little claimed match-winning and career-best figures of 5-28 from 9.1 overs for Ireland in Thailand’s run-chase.

Bangladesh Remain Unbeaten, Jump To The Top Of Qualifiers

Bangladesh Women jumped to the top of the World Cup 2025 Qualifiers points table after securing a comprehensive 34-run win over Scotland. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Fargana Hoque, Sharmin Akhter and captain Nigar Sultana (83* off 59) belted significant half-centuries to boost Bangladesh Women up to 276-6 from 50 overs.

In response, Scotland’s lower-order batters Priyanaz Chatterji and Rachel Slater cracked swift 60s, but the duo received little-to-no assistance from the rest of their colleagues. For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter headlined her team’s successful defence with a four-wicket haul.

Shreyas Iyer, Georgia Voll Win Player Of The Month

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer won the ICC Player of the Month men’s award for the month of March 2025. The cricketer played a crucial role during India’s victorious 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign, pulling out match-winning knocks against New Zealand in the opening round, against Australia in the semifinal and once again against the ‘Black Caps’, albeit in the final.

In the women’s category, young Australian top-order batter Georgia Voll bagged the prestigious honour for her prolific run in the three-match away T20I series against New Zealand. Voll plundered scores of 50, 36 and 75 as Australia secured a 3-0 sweep over their Trans-Tasman rivals.
