Earlier on Tuesday, the PCB revealed that Mohammad Yousuf, the former Pakistan batting legend, had opted out of the tour to prioritize his daughter’s medical care. However, hours later, the board confirmed his return to the squad.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a last-minute reversal by batting consultant Yousuf, who will now accompany the national team on their white-ball tour of New Zealand.
Yousuf Reverses Decision After Daughter's Recovery
Yousuf changed his decision within a day as doctors checking on his daughter's health assured him of her speedy recovery.
“Doctors told me that my daughter's health is better now, so I'm going with the team. Going with the team is a national duty that I have decided to fulfil,” Yousuf stated as per GeoSuper.tv.
The Men in Green depart for New Zealand on Wednesday morning for a series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs. This marks Pakistan’s first white-ball tour to New Zealand since April 2024, when a rain-marred T20I series in Rawalpindi ended in a 2–2 draw.
Yousuf’s Role And Pakistan's Aim
Yousuf, appointed as a batting consultant, plays a critical role in refining Pakistan’s batting strategies. His decision to prioritize national duty despite personal challenges underscores his commitment to the team’s preparation for upcoming ICC events.
With the team set to fly out soon, fans are eager to see Pakistan build momentum on New Zealand soil after a poor performance in the Champions Trophy 2025.
