PAK vs AUS | 1st Test: Runs, wickets, rain, historic encounter gives everything but result

The first Test of the three-match series between Pakistan and Australia ended in a draw in Rawalpindi. It was a run feast at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as both the sides amassed huge scores during the course of the match.

Pakistan openers, Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique thoroughly dominated the Australian bowling attack in the second innings as well, as both the players notched up individual tons.

While Imam scored his second hundred of the match and was 111* at the end of final day’s play, Shafique remained unbeaten at 136 as the hosts compiled 252/0.

Earlier, in the day, Australia resumed the proceedings at 449/7 and could only manage to get to 459 before getting bundled out. Pakistan spinner Nauman Ali added two more wickets to his tally in the morning session of the day’s play to complete a six-for in the first innings.

Opener Usman Khawaja top-scored for Australia with 97 while Labuschagne struck 90. Apart from these two, Steve Smith and David Warner also scored individual fifties.

The track in Rawalpindi has faced a lot of backlash after it didn’t really offer anything to the bowlers. In fact, the ICC is likely to investigate the pitch.

“I said earlier as well I have been working on my process for the last 1 and a half years. Very pleasing to be scoring a ton against Australia as they have a good bowling attack. I was working on my basics. Was waiting for the bad balls,” Imam said after the match.

The action will now shift to Karachi where the two sides will begin the second Test from March 12, 2022.
