With each passing year, our cricketers have given their all playing for the country. It is going to be very hard to pick only a few of them but on this auspicious occasion of completing 75 years of Independence, let’s look at a few of the top individual performances by Indian cricketers which made us feel nothing but proud as an Indian.

VVS Laxman's 281 in Kolkata 2001

On March 14, 2001, the cricketing world saw one of the most remarkable comebacks when Indian batting stalwarts VVS Laxman, along with Rahul Dravid, wrote the story of redemption against the mighty Australians.

After bowling out India early in the first innings, Australian skipper Steve Waugh enforced the follow-on. Laxman was promoted up the order at three, and the rest is history. Laxman scored a mammoth 281 and added 376 runs for the fifth wicket with Dravid, whose 180 was equally remarkable. India went on to win the Test by 171 runs, and Laxman's 281 was the magic word to write this redemption story.

Kapil Dev 175* that inspired India to their first WC

Whenever we talk about golden moments in Indian Cricket, the 1983 World Cup win comes right up there in our minds. There were many moments in that World Cup which turned things around but nothing comes close to Kapil Dev’s 175 against Zimbabwe in Tunbridge Wells.

On June 18, the former Indian skipper played an epic knock of unbeaten 175 after India were down and out with 17 for 5. India went on to score 266 and win the match. Kapil Dev’s 175 was the first ODI century by an Indian and also happened to be the highest individual score in ODI cricket back then. It was that kind of knock that not only lifted team India from getting knocked out of the World Cup at that stage but inspired them to go on to win the World Cup.

Kumble’s historic 10 wickets vs Pakistan

Indian spin veteran Anil Kumble’s ten-wicket haul against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in 1999 has to be one of the most memorable individual efforts in our cricket history.

The Indian spin wizard became only the second cricketer in history after England’s Jim Laker to achieve this feat. India gave Pakistan a target of 420 in the second Test and the rest is history. Kumble went through the entire batting order of Pakistan and took all the 10 wickets which helped India to win the Test match by 212 runs.

Kumble's feat becomes more special because it came against India's arch-rivals, Pakistan.

Tendulkar's 98 against Pakistan in the 2003 WC

Sachin Tendulkar has played many memorable innings that we cannot even keep a count of. There is one innings which was not one of his centuries but the whole of India has a really special place for that innings in their heart.

Yes, that 98 against a star-studded Pakistan at Centurion in the 2003 World Cup is one innings that is worth remembering in this piece.

While chasing the target of 274, Tendulkar dominated Pakistan’s pace trio of Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis and scored a scintillating 98 off 75 balls. The Master Blaster won the man of the match for his 98 which will forever be remembered as one of the greatest World Cup innings of all time.

Harmanpreet Kaur's 171* vs Australia

There are many special performances which people remember forever as fans. But performances which inspire a whole generation are a very rare sight. Harmanpreet Kaur’s 171 against Australia in a World Cup semi-final changed Women’s Cricket in India forever.

It was an innings of the highest order. It was a World Cup knockout against the mighty Australians and Harmanpreet played a knock for generations. Batting at number four, the Indian maestro came in the 25th over and escalated the Indian total from 101-1 to 281/4 in a 42-over game.

Ishant Sharma's seven-wicket haul at Lord’s

A Test match victory for India in England is always special, especially when it comes at the Mecca of Cricket. India have managed to win only three Test matches at Lord’s to date. There have been many heroes behind it, and one of them is Ishant Sharma.

India won at Lord's after 28 years, and it was just the second time in history. India were favourites going to Day 5, but Joe Root and Moeen Ali made sure England got back into the game. But Ishant Sharma stuck with bowling short and went through England's batting order.
