The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled Pakistan’s 15-player squad for the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Mohammad Rizwan is set to continue as ‘Men in Green’ captain, as he will be seen leading a star-studded Pakistani line-up in the tournament.
Rizwan will be assisted by fellow senior pro Babar Azam, and star fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. Rising star Saim Ayub, however, was ruled out of the competition owing to the ankle injury he sustained in South Africa earlier this month.
Nonetheless, fans objected to a number of selection calls, with many questioning the inclusion of Faheem Ashraf. Moreover, some fans also questioned the return of blistering opening batter Fakhar Zaman after his extensive omission from Pakistan cricket.
Fans react to Pakistan Champions Trophy squad
Fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf made a cut into the Pakistan squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, even though the cricketer played his previous international match back in December 2023. One can safely assume that the 31-year-old was selected in the Pakistan line-up owing to his prolific wicket-taking spree in the ongoing BPL 2025 season in Bangladesh for the Fortune Barishal franchise.
As it turned out, several Pakistan fans questioned the return of Faheem Ashraf, citing his mediocre returns for the ‘Men in Green’ in ODI cricket. Some fans even claimed that Pakistan’s batting line-up for the tournament is lacking depth, and berated the selection committee for adding just one specialist opener to the team. Moreover, it is worth noting that comeback man Fakhar Zaman has not played an international match for a while.
