Neeraj Chopra shares pace advice for Jasprit Bumrah

Indian track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra recently shared a piece of advice for cricketer Jasprit Bumrah in a bid to generate more pace in his bowling. During an interaction with the Indian Express, Chopra expressed his admiration for Bumrah and added that the pace maverick should lengthen his run-up while bowling to engender higher speeds. He said:

“I like Jasprit Bumrah, I find his action unique. I feel he should lengthen his run-up to add more pace.”

A javelin thrower himself, Chopra added that he and his colleagues often discuss how cricket bowlers can enhance their speeds by making a slight modification in their bowling action. He added:

“As a javelin thrower, we often discuss how bowlers can increase their pace if they start their run-up from a little further back. I like Bumrah’s style.”

The 25-year-old cricket enthusiast recently attended the high-profile 2023 World Cup final between hosts India and Australia at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chopra recalled his experience at the venue and described it as his first visit to a cricket game.

Unfortunately for the Olympian legend and scores of Indian fans present at the venue, Team India, under Rohit Sharma, ended up losing the title to Australia by six wickets in a seemingly one-sided affair.

Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, is currently enjoying his time away from the game following the conclusion of the tournament. The speedster distanced himself from India’s five-match T20I series, and also opted himself out of team’s forthcoming white-ball tour of South Africa.

Bumrah will next be seen in action during India’s two-match Test series against the Proteas in late December.
