NZ vs PAK | Devon Conway Tests Positive For Covid-19; Ruled Out Of 4th T20I

New Zealand's star opener Devon Conway has been ruled out of the fourth T20I against Pakistan, which will be played today at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Conway has contracted the COVID-19 virus, owing to which the player has been isolated from the rest of the team.

Conway ruled out, replacement named

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has named Chad Bowes as a replacement for the dashing opener. Apart from Conway, bowling coach Andre Adams has also been tested positive for Covid, and is under isolation.

Domestic team Canterbury's men's development coach Brendon Donkers will join the New Zealand side in Christchurch as substitute for Adams for the fourth match, which will take place in a few hours from now.

Earlier, New Zealand stand-in captain Mitchell Santner also tested positive for the virus, and remained unavailable for the first T20I at Eden Park in Auckland.

Conway is not having the best of the T20I series, having scored just 27 runs in the three matches, which is well below his standards. In 44 T20Is, the 32-year-old has amassed 1,275 runs which include nine half-centuries at an healthy strike rate of 128.66.

Bowes, who has joined the Kiwi squad in place of Conway has featured in 11 T20Is, and scored 187 runs with a solitary fifty. 

As for the series, New Zealand have already gained an unassailable 3-0 lead over Pakistan, and will look to test out bench strength in the remaining two encounters. 

The fifth and final T20I will be played on January 21.
