Indian players could undergo Bronco Test in UAE [Source: AFP]
According to emerging reports, the much-talked-about Bronco test was not a part of the latest fitness assessments of the Indian cricketers. It's worth mentioning that Indian players, who were gathered at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) to undergo fitness tests, weren't exposed to the Bronco Test, which could now be conducted in the United Arab Emirates right before the tournament.
Bronco test uncertain, could be conducted in Dubai
India's prominent cricketers, including the Asia Cup-bound players, arrived at the CoE, where they were supposed to prove their fitness standards by undergoing a multi-level assessment. The Bronco test, recommended by India's new strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, was reportedly a part of the assessment.
However, contrary to the expectations, the players underwent routine fitness tests and health checkups before concluding the day with the familiar Yo-Yo test. Now, as the Indian team is all set to depart for the UAE for the Asia Cup, TOI has reported that the Bronco test might be conducted once they reach the Gulf country, if at all.
"It could happen when the squad assembles in Dubai for the Asia Cup. The team will start leaving late tonight (early morning of September 4) and have their first session at ICC Academy on September 5. So if the management and the S&C want to do a Bronco assessment, it could happen in Dubai. If at all it happens." a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.
It's worth mentioning that these fitness assessments, including the Bronco test, are not mandatory for team selection. However, the BCCI, in its directive, wants the Indian players to prove their physical fitness by clearing the tests, especially after coming from a long lay-off period.
Talking about India, the Men in Blue will have their first official practice session in Dubai on September 5. They will take on the UAE in their inaugural game before facing Pakistan and Oman in the competition.
