In a significant move marking his formal return to the helm of the franchise he built, former BCCI president N. Srinivasan has commenced his second innings in cricket administration. The octogenarian has been appointed the chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL), the entity that owns the mega franchise of Chennai Super Kings.

This development solidifies his official leadership role within the company, over a decade and a half after he was the foundational force behind the team's creation. Srinivasan and his daughter, Rupa Gurunath, joined the CSKCL board for the first time in February of this year.

CSKCL's Annual Report Confirms Appointment

The company’s 2025 annual report, published on Tuesday, formally noted that Srinivasan assumed the chairman’s role in May, taking over from his cousin, R. Srinivasan. The report also confirmed a recent appointment, stating that Rupa was made the wholetime director just a week ago.

This corporate restructuring follows the sale of India Cements' cement business to UltraTech Cement more than a year ago. India Cements was the original founder and owner of the CSK franchise.

Srinivasan's Controversial Career As BCCI And ICC Chairman

Notably, N. Srinivasan’s tenure as BCCI president from 2011 marked both the height of his influence and the beginning of his downfall. Elected in September 2011, his ownership of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) through India Cements immediately drew conflict-of-interest accusations.

The defining crisis came in 2013 when the IPL spot-fixing scandal erupted. His son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was arrested for betting, forcing Srinivasan to step aside as BCCI chief. Despite a temporary return, the Supreme Court intervened in 2014, ordering him to step down.

That same year, Srinivasan became the first ICC chairman but faced further scrutiny. In 2015, the Supreme Court confirmed his conflict of interest, CSK was banned for two years, and Srinivasan was removed as ICC chairman.
