The clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers already witnessed a jaw-dropping catch from Jack Edwards, and it was soon followed by another blinder, this time from Ben McDermott at slips during Sixers' chase. He stretched with his dive and took a two-handed screamer to end skipper Moises Henriques' wicket.
The team from Sydney needed 174 to win and they were off to a horrendous star, losing Josh Philippe for a duck. The onus was on Henriques to steer the team to a win, but even he perished cheaply as the Sixers were left in deep trouble.
The damage was done by pacer Riley Meredith, who dismissed Philippe, came back to haunt the Sixers with the prized scalp of their captain. He bowled a brilliant length ball around off stump and forced the batter to play with hard hands as he got an outside-edge.
Ben McDermott leaps to his left and stunned everyone as he grabbed a superhuman catch to end Henriques' stay as the batter departed for a score of 1.
Hurricanes post a strong 173/7
Hurricanes had a flying start to their innings, courtesy, Mitchell Owen who smacked a quick-fire 15-ball 36 to set the tone for a big total for his side. Once he got dismissed, the run-rate slowed down, but the Australian duo of Ben McDermott and Tim David finished the innings in style.
While McDermott posted 42, David finished strong and was dismissed for a 10-ball 25 as the Hurricanes managed to post a competitive total. At the moment, Sixers have lost 4 for 84 and finds themselves in a tricky situation in the run-chase.
