In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Tuesday, announced England's provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup edition. Swashbuckling batter Harry Brook has been appointed as the captain, while ace speedsters Mark Wood and Brydon Carse have been excluded from the team.
Although Carse has been picked for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, he won't represent the Three Lions in the T20 World Cup 2026. In another bold move, England have also dropped keeper-batter Jamie Smith from their T20 World Cup squad amid his abysmal returns in the Ashes.

Experienced fast bowler Jofra Archer, who missed the last two Tests of the Ashes 2025-26, has been included in the England squad for the T20 World Cup. As he is currently recovering from a side strain, Archer has been sidelined from the Sri Lanka tour.
Harry Brook will lead the Englishmen in the T20 World Cup, with the likes of Tom Banton, Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett and Phil Salt forming England's core team in the marquee event.
Liam Dawson, Will Jacks and Rehan Ahmed have been included in the team as England's spin bowling allrounders. Meanwhile, Jamie Overton and Curran have been chosen as the seam-bowling allrounders, with Carse missing out.
Mark Wood, who was recently ruled out of the Ashes due to an injury, will also miss the T20 World Cup. In his absence, Jofra Archer will spearhead the English pace attack with Josh Tongue, Luke Wood and the allrounders' duo of Curran and Overton.
England's most successful T20I bowler, Adil Rashid, will lead their spin bowling department in the tournament, with Jacks, Dawson and Rehan also rolling their arms for a few overs.
