Pakistan opening batter Imam-ul-Haq has been ruled out of action for a couple of weeks. The development was confirmed by the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) a day after the left-handed batter suffered a facial injury against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.
CT scan reports have confirmed that there is no damage done to his jaw or any other body part. While Imam-ul-Haq has been passed fit for air travel, he has been advised against participating in any sport-related activity.
“Pakistan team batter Imam-ul-Haq sustained a mild facial injury during batting, caused by an accidental throw from a New Zealand fielder. He was immediately attended to by the medical team and shifted to Tauranga Hospital for a detailed assessment,” PCB said in a statement.
“A CT scan of his head and face was conducted and reported as normal. Based on clinical evaluation, he has been diagnosed with a mild concussion. Imam is feeling better now and remains in stable condition. The specialists at Tauranga Hospital have advised a two-week rest from all sporting activities. He has also been declared fit for air travel.”
Concussion Substitute For Imam-ul-Haq
In the recently concluded third ODI, Imam had just managed to get off the mark during a brief seven-ball stay at the time of getting hit by a fielder’s throw. Having played a short delivery with soft hands, Imam had rushed for a single when the ball bizarrely entered the grille of his helmet to remain stuck there.
As an immediate measure, Imam was attended by the team physiotherapist before being carried off the Bay Oval. Soon after, he was taken to a hospital. Been concussed, he was replaced by Usman Khan, who batted at No. 4. The move, however, didn’t fruition as he scored 12 (17) in an unsuccessful 265-run chase in a 42-over contest.
Imam, 29, had made an international comeback after 14 months during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. Since then, he has scored 10 (26), 3 (12) and 1* (7) across three ODI outings. Bereft of opportunities in the first two ODIs, Imam wouldn’t miss much as he isn’t part of any squads for Pakistan Super League 2025.
